Superiority Burger opens in Tokyo
Big congrats to the denizens of Tokyo, who are now the lucky recipients of the second location of Brooks Headley’s rock-and-roll vegetarian counter Superiority Burger. The menu and specials are different there: The tofu-fried-tofu sandwich comes with a kinpira slaw; the chicory salad has been boosted with sticky persimmons and purple daikon; and there’s a new sandwich on a roll with yuba, mixed herbs, frizzled onions, and pickles. As with the East Village original, things change daily based on what’s seasonal — including the gelato. Also: Check out the very cute sign the Tokyo outpost has outside.
A French bakery replaces Moishe’s
A modern new French bakery called Le Fournil has taken over the space of legendary bakery Moishe’s, which closed after over 40 years of service in the East Village. It’s got coffee, croissants, goat cheese sandwiches, and lots of fresh bread. EV Grieve reports that some early visitors are pleased that Le Fournil actually offers bread instead of just pastries, but the prices are higher than Moishe’s, and its warm, wood-paneled look has been replaced by lots and lots of tiles. It’s one of several new bread bakeries to open across the city.
