New Burger Joint Appears Headed To Shuttered B-Side Burgers In Irving Park - Block Club Chicago

IRVING PARK — B-Side Burgers left Irving Park in 2018, but it appears that a new burger joint will take its spot on Irving Park Road.

Signs for a new business named Big League Burgers Chicago went up at 3732 W. Irving Park Rd. in recent days. Meanwhile, the windows are covered in opaque plastic and the parking lot has been roped off from cars.

Attempts to contact the owners of Big League Burgers were unsuccessful.

New banners posted on the windows say “Coming Soon Big League Burgers Chicago.” The large signpost in the property’s parking lot that used to feature the B-Side name has also been changed to advertise the new name.

The interior of the building has had all its retro”B-Side” signs and artwork removed and is undergoing construction.

Ted Theo opened B-Side at 3732 W. Irving Park Road in November of 2018. He grew up working at his family’s business down the street at Original Alps Pancake House at 3637 W. Irving Park Road and decided to try his hand at a retro-inspired burger joint.

A family member who works at the Original Alps confirmed to Block Club that Theo decided to close and sell off B-Side in October due to his difficulty in making the business viable.

Theo could not be reached for comment.

B-Side’s food license was canceled Nov. 22, 2019, according to city records.

Before B-Side, the property was the location of Bread & Wine, which focused on fine wines, Midwest-sourced entrees and charcuterie. Lisa Fosler Kelly and Jennifer Wisniewski ran the business for six years before closing in May 2018.

When Bread & Wine closed down, the then-owners told the Tribune it became too difficult to keep the restaurant afloat in “an area that has very little foot traffic and no tourists at all.”

Prior to Bread & Wine the address was the site of a coin-operated laundromat.
