Conservative moms group has beef over Burger King commercial for no-meat burger - syracuse.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A commercial for Burger King’s popular non-meat Impossible Whopper is leaving a bad taste for members of a conservative moms group.

In the commercial, a man eating the Impossible Whopper pauses for a moment to say, “Damn, that’s good.”

According to Fox News, that’s too much for One Million Moms, which says the commercial crosses the line because of its uses of the “D-word.” Although the commercial was released in August, the group didn’t issue its critical statement until Friday, CNN reports.

“One Million Moms finds this highly inappropriate," One Million Moms says in its news release. "When responding to the taste test, he didn’t have to curse. Or if, in fact, it was a real and unscripted interview in which the man was not an actor, then Burger King could have simply chosen to edit the profanity out of the commercial.”

The group, a division of the American Family Association, goes on to say the commercial is “extremely destructive and damaging to impressionable children.” It has an online petition encouraging Burger King to remove the commercial or to edit out the expletive. As of early Monday morning, just under 9,000 people had signed the online petition.

CNN reports One Million Moms has had past campaigns targeting ads it found offensive. In 2012, it was unsuccessful in pressuring JC Penney to remove ads featuring Ellen DeGeneres, who is gay. Last year, Hallmark Channel removed a commercial for Zola featuring a lesbian couple getting married following pressure from the group. The channel restored the ad after fierce backlash.

Yahoo! News reports Burger King has not responded to One Million Moms’ statement.
